Coastal Dental Care would like to congratulate local Gold Coast Charity Walk With Us. The charity won our first $500 Cash for a Charity donation!
Recently, we teamed up with Hot Tomato to give away two $500 donations to two deserving local charities. We asked the public to nominate their favourite charity and tell us why they think they should win the cash prize.
Because of you, we are proud to announce that Walk with Us will receive a no strings attached $500 donation. Walk with Us was nominated by many members of the public and we are pleased support such hard working, committed volunteers.
About Walk With Us
Walk With Us is a not-for-profit organisation which was founded in 2014 by Nikki Luke, Jade Kilshaw and Mathew Mason. Originally, the charity was formed to support homeless and disadvantaged individuals living within the Gold Coast community. Aim of the charity was to provide them with food, clothing and support.
Now, Walk With Us’s volunteer base has expanded and so has its services. The charity now offers support to local youth, domestic violence victims and those who suffer from mental health related issues. Walk With Us organise weekly dinners, food packs, clothing and furniture for those in need. Furthermore, the charity has also linked with the Queensland Government to assist people with obtaining housing and general health services.
Walk With Us’s long term vision
Walk With Us Admin Robyn Luke says the charity aims to create a safe environment for people from all walks of life, “Our long-term dream is to one day open a Hub for our friends. A place where they can come and feel safe, a place to just chill out, to leave their possessions in a safe place while they go to appointments.
“We want to establish a place for them to come and have showers, do their washing, cook in our kitchen where we would supply food. They could also use our computers for jobs or accommodation and get some advice from visiting practitioners.”
How will the money help?
Robyn and the team currently operate out of Fradgley Hall in Burleigh Heads. The volunteers help feed a large contingent of people each week. Robyn says, “Each Monday night, we feed between 40 and 70 people at a hall in Burleigh Heads, so this donation will help cover all those expenses for maybe three to four weeks.”
