Sedation Dentistry

Sleep Dentistry Takes the Fear Out of Visiting the Dentist

Are you afraid of the dentist? Fear no more. Coastal Dental Care offers sleep dentistry and sedation options to help patients receive the dental care they need without stress or discomfort.

For patients who experience dental anxiety or difficulty tolerating treatment, sedation dentistry can provide a safe and comfortable way to complete dental procedures while feeling calm and relaxed.

Dental care without the fear

If you feel overwhelmed by the noises, smells or sensations during a dental visit, sedation dentistry may be the solution you’ve been searching for.

At Coastal Dental Care, we offer several sedation options depending on your needs and the type of treatment required.

Oral Sedation involves medication taken approximately one hour before your dental appointment to help you feel relaxed and at ease during treatment.

For patients who require deeper relaxation, IV Twilight Sedation is available at Coastal Dental Care Robina Town, with Dr Tristan Cuffe. This form of sedation helps patients feel deeply relaxed and unaware of the procedure while still breathing on their own and responding to instructions when needed. It is commonly used for complex or surgical dental procedures.

For patients who prefer to be completely asleep during treatment, General Anaesthesia (Sleep Dentistry) can be arranged at Gold Coast Private Hospital with Dr Norah Ayad from Coastal Dental Care Burleigh Waters, where treatment is performed in a hospital environment alongside a Specialist Anaesthetist.

How does sleep dentistry work?

General anaesthesia places your body into a temporary, controlled and closely monitored state of unconsciousness where you are fully relaxed.

During this time, your dentist can complete the required dental treatment without discomfort or anxiety. Patients are carefully monitored throughout the procedure by qualified medical professionals to ensure safety at all times.

What Is IV Twilight Sedation?

IV Twilight Sedation provides a deeper level of relaxation than oral sedation and is administered through a small intravenous line. Patients typically feel calm, sleepy and may have little or no memory of the procedure afterwards.

This sedation option is commonly used for procedures such as:

  • Surgical tooth extractions

  • Dental implants

  • Bone grafting

  • Complex restorative treatment

  • Multiple dental procedures in one appointment

IV sedation helps create a calm environment for patients while allowing dentists to perform treatment efficiently and comfortably.

Is Sedation Dentistry Right for You?

Sedation dentistry may be suitable for patients who:

  • Experience moderate to severe dental anxiety

  • Have difficulty tolerating dental procedures

  • Require complex or multiple treatments

  • Prefer a more relaxed dental experience

During your consultation, your dentist will review your dental needs, medical history and treatment options to determine the most appropriate sedation method for you.

Your sedation dentistry consultation

Your initial consultation will allow your dentist to assess your dental concerns and determine whether sedation dentistry is suitable for your treatment.

You may be asked to sit in the dental chair for a simple, non-invasive examination so your dentist can plan your treatment. Any questions or concerns about sedation options can be discussed at this time to ensure you feel comfortable and informed.
