“Mum, look there is a giant tooth! And the tooth fairy!” This child was not dreaming, nor were they the only one who got really excited last Saturday at the Mudgeeraba Show.
The Coastal Dental Care Big Tooth, Tooth Fairy and the team from Coastal Dental Care Mudgeeraba set up a stall at the 89th Annual Mudgeeraba Agricultural Show. Lots of families stopped by to get tips and advice on their oral health, and, of course, to take a photo with the Big Tooth.
The youngest ones were especially excited to receive a gift bag containing a kids toothbrush, toothpaste and small toys. While the children were entertained, Dr Alison Downes answered questions from parents.
Many were wondering what the right age was to bring their toddlers in for their first dental visit.
“We recommend to bring children along to dentist appointments as young as possible, even if that means that they just come along with their parents for their check-up and clean,” Alison explained.
“They can sit on their lap and watch at first. This helps a lot to make them curious and to create a positive feeling towards dental visits. Usually, parents know then when their children are ready to sit in the chair themselves.”
It was an amazing event and a great opportunity for our team to have a chat to the Mudgeeraba community.
“Coastal Dental Care Mudgeeraba is a family-orientated dental practice,” Alison said.
“Lots of our patients come with the whole family and it is important to see the children from a young age. It was wonderful to see everyone in a non-dental environment today to answer questions.”
The Mudgeeraba Show was just one of several events Coastal Dental Care will attend this year to strengthen its bonds with both new and existing patients. Looking back a couple of weeks to April, all practices participated in the Patient Experience Week 2017 for the first time. Initiated by the Beryl Institute, the week had a focus on staff and patient activities aiming for a further improvement of the patient experience at the Coastal Dental Care practices, as well as celebrating the outstanding relationship between our staff and their patients.
In addition, Coastal Dental Care used the four days to raise $230 across all practices to support the Tweed Mayor Appeal. All funds were donated to the Tweed Council to distribute the money to community members affected by the flooding after ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie. After all the positive feedback, Coastal Dental Care aims to expand the Patient Experience Week in 2018.
