Choosing the right health fund for you and your family can be a complex process. You will need to consider the type of cover you want (hospital and/or extras), the level of cover you need (often several categories from basic cover to top cover), decide about excess payments, and overall find the best deal for you.
At Coastal Dental Care, we accommodate patients of all private health funds. This means, no matter which private health fund you choose, you won’t have any out of pocket costs for your routine check-up and cleans including x-rays, fluoride and scale if you have cover including dental extras.
Furthermore, all Coastal Dental Care practices participate in the HCF More For Teeth program and are a part of the nib first choice network. Apart from Emerald Lakes, all our practices are member of the bupa Members First network. Some of our practices are also partner of medibank and CBHS. Please check our table below to find out more about the preferred provider status of your Coastal Dental Care practice.
What does preferred provider mean?
Being a preferred health fund provider for dental means that our Coastal Dental Care practice has agreed with the private health fund to provide dental care at reduced rate to all their health fund members.
The set fee schedule guarantees that you receive a certain benefit from your health fund towards the treatment and a certain amount (a gap) that you will have to cover yourself. By receiving treatment from a participating provider, you can access discounted treatment or agreed lower rates.

How much does a filling cost with private health insurance?
The cost of fillings vary depending on location, practice and the type of filling. With these factors in mind, the price for a filling can range from $140 to $450.
Your Coastal Dental Care practice will always provide you with a detailed treatment plan including item numbers once they have assessed your situation in a check-up (oral examination). From here, you can ask your health fund for a detailed quote.
Depending on your private health fund policy, your insurance may cover a certain amount of the cost. Please check the policy documents of your dental extras cover or call your health fund to find out the exact amount of the benefits you are entitled to receive.
It is also important to consider the annual limits of your policy as well as waiting periods if you are a new member of your health fund.
