What is The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)?

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is a government initiative designed to help families access essential dental care for children. At Coastal Dental Care, you can access FREE Children’s Dentistry under the CDBS program. In 2025, eligible families will receive up to $1,132 (per child) over two calendar years for general dental services.

Who is eligible under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule?

Children aged 0–17 years who are eligible for Medicare, and are part of families receiving specific government benefits, such as Family Tax Benefit Part A.

How does it work?

You can use the full amount up to $1,132 for each eligible child in the first calendar year (if required). This will leave no funds for the second year. If you don’t use the full $1,132 in the first year, you can use it in the second year if your child is still eligible.

If you don’t use the full amount within the 2 calendar years, you cannot use the remaining funds. You will have to wait for a new cover period to start.

You also won’t be able to use any remaining funds once your child is no longer eligible.

What does it cover?

The CDBS provides funding for essential services, including:

Comprehensive examinations
X-rays
Preventive treatments (e.g., cleaning and fissure sealants)
Restorative treatments (e.g., fillings)
Root Canal Treatment
Extractions
And more

What is not covered?

Treatments that fall outside the scope of the CDBS eligibility include:

Cosmetic dental procedures
Mouthguards
Orthodontics (e.g. braces and clear aligners)
Dental services provided in a hospital
