The Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) is a dental benefits program that provides up to $1,095 in benefits for children aged between 0-17 years. The CDBS spans over two years of basic dental services for eligible children, ensuring that families of all backgrounds receive the dental care they deserve.
How do I check my eligibility?
You can assess your child’s eligibility for CDBS online through the Health Professional Online Services or by phoning 132 150. It is also recommended that you assess your child’s eligibility for Medicare and their ability to receive Family Tax Benefit Part A or other relevant Government payments including:
- Youth Allowance
- ABSTUDY
- Disability Support Pension
- Parenting Payment Special Benefit
- Carer Payment
- Double Orphan Pension
- Veteran’s Children Education Scheme
The Department of Human Services will assess a child’s eligibility from the start of each calendar year, with a notification of eligibility to be sent to the child or the child’s carer informing them of their status.
What kind of dental treatment can my child receive?
The Child Dental Benefits Schedule provides a number of basic dental services to those who are eligible. It is noted that each dental benefit must be clinically relevant to warrant treatment, meaning that the treatment must be necessary for action to be taken. Hospital services can only be claimed for dental services provided in out-of-hospital facilities. In reference to restorative services or fillings, the CDBS can only be claimed for one metallic or adhesive restoration per day.
What happens when the benefit funding is reached?
Once a patient reaches the $1,095 cap in benefits over the two-year period, the patient will no longer be entitled to further benefits.
How do I check my balance?
The Department of Human Services will inform you of how much is left within your benefits cap, allowing you to plan treatment and pay any out-of-pocket costs where necessary.
