Smiles All Round Sports Club Grant

May 13, 2019

We love to support the local community and sporting clubs. This is why we decided to sponsor 6 institutions by giving away a total of $15,000 for the 2018/2019 sporting season!

The Smiles All Round Sports Club Grant allows local sporting teams in September, October and November 2018 and February, March and April 2019 to apply for a $2,500 sponsorship. All you have to do is to nominate your local sporting team and tell us why your club deserves to win and what you would do with the money.

All local sports clubs operating within the City of Gold Coast and Scenic Rim local council areas can enter but they are only permitted a single nomination per round.

You have time to enter until the middle of each month mentioned above. All valid nominees will enter the voting period where the public will have the opportunity to cast a single vote for their preferred club.

Nominees will be profiled for voting for two rounds, except for the nominees who obtain the most public votes and are therefore the round winner. Votes will be reset each round.

Have a sporting club you think should win $2,500? To nominate and vote, please go to our page on mygc.com.au.

September Winner: Cristobal Soto Fighting For My Dreams Academy

Fighting For My Dreams is a small professional development coaching academy associated with Surfers Paradise Apollo soccer club for the last 2 years. Head Coach Cristobal Soto ex-professional Chilean player runs the academy. What is unique about this academy is the passion, energy and dedication Cristobal brings to his coaching every day.

The academy will use the funds to buy new equipment and give scholarships to talented players from families that are unable to afford the professional coaching fees.

October Winner: Gold Coast Outrigger Canoe Club

Coastal Dental Care CEO Dr Anthony Puljich (center) awarded the Gold Coast Outrigger Canoe Club with a big cheque for the $2,500 sponsorship.

The Gold Coast Outrigger Canoe Club is a Gold Coast based club with juniors aged between 7 and 19 years. The club participates in the National Champions in both the single and team marathons. Next year, they will be focusing on growing their junior development squad in preparation for the World Titles held in Hawaii in 2020.

The club will use the sponsorship to buy a OC1/2 craft. They will also get junior club equipment such as safety gear and signage. As well, they will use the funding for their juniors so they can take part in the Senior National titles.

November Winner: FAD Cheer & Dance Gold Coast

The winner of the third round of the Smiles All Round Sports Club Grants is FAD Gold Coast Cheer & Dance.

Coastal Dental Care CEO Dr Anthony Puljich handed over the big cheque for the $2,500 sports club grant to the studio director of FAD Gold Coast, Catherine Moane.

She was grateful for the support as the small academy caters for a lot of girls with limited equipment. Catherine will use the money to buy new tumbling mats and spring floors to help improve the girls’ skills.

Big Tooth Todd also visited the cheerleaders and learnt some new dance moves.

February Winner: Bond Pirates Rugby Union Club

The winner of the Coastal Dental Smiles All Round for February 2019 is the Bond Pirates Rugby Union Club.

Coastal Dental Care CEO Dr Franck Page handed over the big cheque. The club’s Junior President Randall Cook and his players celebrated receiving the $2,500 sponsorship.

The club has a very strong young junior membership base. However, they cater right through to senior grade and even has a good contingent of players over 35. The money will go towards a much needed gear shed that the club is currently building. With the Coastal Dental Care sports club grant, they hope to finish the set-up within the 2019 season.

We are very happy being able to support another local club. The Pirates have many volunteers giving their heart and soul to develop the sport on the Gold Coast.

March Winner: Surfers Paradise AFL Club

Round 5 of the Smiles All Round Sports Club Grant went to the Surfers Paradise AFL Club. The club was established in 1961 and has grown ever since. Volunteers run the family-orientated club which caters for a wide range of age groups for both boys and girls. This includes Super 6’s for the youngest ones, competition teams from Uunder 8s to Under 16s for boys and Under 11, Under 13 and Under 15 girls teams. The club also has seniors teams for both men and women.

Big Tooth Todd visited the club and the players showed him some tricks and tackles!

April Winner: Hyped Performing Arts

The winner of the last round of the Smiles All Round Sports Club grant is Hyped Performing Arts. The local dance, singing and acting studio based at Varsity Lakes received the highest number of votes in Round 6 of the competition.

Hyped Performing Arts values the studio’s fun and family friendly atmosphere. The team offers a range of classes for all ages in dancing, singing and acting, including opportunities for competitions, private lessons, show groups as well as those who just love to perform.

At the moment, the studio has around 150 students ranging in age from 3 to 17. Hyped also offers dance classes for adults.

The owner of the studio, Mel Jansen, was very excited about receiving the $2,500 Coastal Dental Care Sports Club Grant. She said, “We are organising a once in a lifetime trip to dance at Disneyland in LA in 2020 for our students at the moment.

“Everyone here helps to raise money to cover the costs of costumes, uniforms, extra rehearsals and singing lessons for all students. We are all so excited!”

The girls were even more excited when Big Tooth Todd joined them to learn one of their dancing routines!

Coastal Dental Care is very proud that we had the opportunity to support so many local clubs and initiatives. We would like to thank Hot Tomato and MyGC for organising the Sports Club Grants 2018/2019 with us. Coastal Dental Care is also looking forward to further support our local sporting communities!
